2023-Current Commission for Online Group Logo Design // Branding // Wallpapers
A project that I have been working on since 2022, and continually updated overtime. One of my friends has a online gaming group that they refer to as
"The Nine-Mil Outfit". I was commissioned to create a logo and identity for them. I continually create original designs and wallpapers for this group.
Through this page you can view the progression of the brand and identity as I have worked on it, it has been through numerous revisions. It's been a very important project for me and the growth of my design language, allowing me to experiment, but also incorporate feedback into.
This was the beginning of my ideation, I usually boot into Affinity Designer and just start playing around with shapes once I have a general idea from a client.
I initially wanted to have the logo be in the shape of a magazine since the name is a reference to a 9mm handgun, and be reminiscent of a logo you might see on an ammo box. This was represented through colour too, as initially I had a dark grey-blue and sandy tone representing the brand.
You can see these ideas experimented with in the first few logos. #1 really tried to experiment with that magazine iconography, while 2 took a more subtle approach. #3 attempted to go for the 9 resembling more of a barrel.

#4 would be the start of a clear direction for the logo. I ended up ditching "The Nine-Mil Outfit" and ended up going to simply "Nine-Mil for simplicity and coherent design, but this is where the design really started to take shape.
You can see traces of it still in the current design as of 2025.

More ideation, getting closer to the final product.
This is where the 9mm pistol became the hyphen in the word "Nine-Mil". Playing with negative space while keeping the text very legible, and not being as disruptive to the overall design.
The first official logo of Nine-Mil.
A few months later, I could create a custom typeface for the logo and make it much wider, and instead of outlines and negative space, would utilize solid colour to create the logo.
This is the v2 of the logo. It feels more professional than the first in my opinion, more refined and sleek, which was the goal when designing a logo themed around a firearm, as they have usually very smooth appearances.
After some time, another re-brand was in-order. Being given so much creative freedom allowed me to experiment, and I really wanted to get away from the gun iconography. This is where the "NM" logo was introduced, yet another simplification that aimed to maintain the characteristic of the v2 of the logo, while making a much more readable logo at a small size.
It would get a few more small modifications overtime, you can observe these small shifts in design over the next few images.
Current Logos (2025-Present)
The current logo of the brand.
Through all the iteration, I believe this is a true culmination of the efforts. It takes all the aspects of the previous generations and combines them into a sleek, and perfect design. The logo uses a completely built from scratch typeface, made exclusively for this logo.
It has three different versions, a detailed version, NM version and a horizontal version. These have a wide variety of uses within the different media I've created for the group, and give unique readability dependent on the situation. For example, NM is very appealing as a logo for the discord server, as it allows it to be read even at a small size. While the detailed version is very appealing on wallpapers and other such media.
The gun iconography returned in this version, as I felt a desire to represent the brands roots. While guns have a lot of weight to their representation, I believe when paired when the typography, it does not come off as a threatening logo, which is a balance I aimed to achieve.
